Plantation Shutters – After Care – How to Clean Window Shutters

After Care Tips for Plantation Shutters – How to Clean Window Shutters

Caring for your beautiful window and door shutters to keep them looking great is easy and we recommend the following four cleaning steps:

1. Use a lamb’s wool or ostrich feather duster on whichever type of shutter material you have, from hardwood to painted MDF. These dusters remove dust quickly, easily slip through the shutter slats/louvres and are so soft that you do not have to worry about scratching the finish.
2. Tilt down all the slats of the interior shutter and dust away in a downward stroke. Then dust the reverse side.
3. Follow this by wiping the slats/louvres down with a damp cloth. A static cling duster could also be used as an alternative.
4. Dry off any moisture with a dry cloth on both sides. Ta dah! Beautiful plantation shutters.

PS Avoid spraying liquid on the shutters themselves and avoid cleaning solutions as they can potentially damage the shutter surface.
